Egg: The oil globules in this egg are scattered about the yolk surface (A). The only pigment seen is a few yellow spots on the embryo just prior to hatching. Incubation is about 24 hours.
Larva: The NH larva has 3 yellow pigment spots in the finfolds (B). The 3-day larva is so similar to MIIA6, that these are very likely closely related species (the big egg size difference would seem to rule out same species). B: NH, C: 1 day, D: 3 days (23°C).
No attempt was made to rear this egg, as it was rare, and only found singly. No larvae have yet been sequenced. The egg and larva resemble MIIA6, suggesting this is probably a cynoglossid. Positive identification must await DNA barcoding.
The very few eggs seen, suggest year-round spawning (blue graph). Not seen in the DHM samples. Of the 11 eggs seen so far in the Park Rynie linked samples, only 2 were from inshore samples. See Section 7.3 and Table 1 of the Introductory Notes, for more information on the linked samples.
